My landscapes and flowers are a somewhat recent departure from my animals and pet portraits. I started taking landscape painting classes from David Dunlop of Silvermine about 10 years ago. In the past two years, I have studied with William McCarthy, who has taught me that my imagination is the best source for a dreamy landscape painting.

Pasture
Palette knife version of a peaceful pasture.
Peach Beach
An early attempt to experience pallet knife painting.
Silver Palms
A neighbor's backyard is full of overlapping silver palms.
Geranium Study
An oil study exhibited at The Darien Art Club annual juried show.
Nantucket Fire House
One of my favorite oil paintings of the firehouse in Nantucket. My largest sale yet, it was hard to let go!
Hilton Head
Spring light reflecting on a marsh in Sea Pines, SC.
Blossom Time
One of several paintings purchased for the permanent collection at Yale New Haven Cancer Center.
Farm Road
Oil painting on a silver panel.
Gail and Terry's View
Frequent visits to St. Michael's MD produced several landscapes, including this view.
Maine
Painted from a photo of a neighbor's Maine getaway.
Our Bridge
One of several paintings purchased for the permanent collection at Yale New Haven Cancer Center.
Pink Skys
This is based on a photograph taken of Byron Bay Beach in Australia.
Peonies
These peonies caught my eye on the cover of a catalogue. As I often do, I tore off the page and stashed it in a wicker basket of other such ideas for paintings. I had just started to paint with oils again, after a bad experience with fumes from turpentine. I decided to use this picture to start my journey with oils and I’m now hooked! I never realized just how many shades of white were needed to give these wonderful flowers the depth they deserved. Oil painting. 24X24.
Landscape
Over the years, I have taken many landscape classes at Silvermine Art Guild with David Dunlop, and more recently, with William McCarthy. This was my second painting while working with Will. He is such a wonderful teacher and an inspiration to his students. He literally paints from memory and a few thumbnail sketches. The technique involves using Liquin and only large brushes from the hardware store!
This oil painting can be seen in the home of Helen and Muscie Garnett in Richmond, VA. Say "hi" to Lola for me.
Cornwall Country
My friends the Rawls (yes, the parents of Grits) have a wonderful old home in Cornwall, CT. This barn on their property house a small dairy along with Waite’s tractor!
Roads Less Traveled
Landscape 2
This was my first oil painting while studying with William McCarthy. The technique plays well to my use of color and contrast. I want to go there, but the place came from my imagination. I'll pack my bags now!
Painted in oil. 18X24.
The Ocean House
If you have ever been to Watch Hill, RI, you have seen the Ocean House hotel. The property is up on a hill overlooking the ocean and dunes. Recently the land was converted into condos, a smaller hotel and retail, so I'm happy to have this painting to remember "the way things were."
Waveny
This small landscape was painted at Waveny in New Canaan, CT.
Avondale, RI
Another scene from my Watch Hill days. This is of Avondale, an area outside of Westerly, CT and Watch Hill, RI.
Seascape
This wonderful seascape was actually inspired by a photo of Tasmania, taken by Rick and Kat. They were surfing in Tasmania en route to their new home in Brisbane.
Oil on board. 18X24.
Iris
This is an oldie but goodie. When I first started painting flowers I did several large impressions. The background consists of colored tissue paper with a soft white glaze.
